Upside Down

Upside Down

Upside Down is a romantic sci-fi movie release in USA on the 15 March 2013, from what I can gather it was originally released sometime in 2012.

In a world where there are two gravities, there is a town Up Above and a town Down Below (Up Above is like Down Below’s sky and vice versa). A young boy from Down Below manages to reach the edge of the gravities and meets a girl from Up Above. Both of them start meeting up there throughout the years and during their teens they start dating. Since contact between Up Above folks and Down Below folks is prohibited, they get caught while Adam tries to bring back Eden in her gravity safely with a rope. The rope gets cut and Eden falls to the ground in her gravity. Seeing blood come out of her head, Adam is certain she’s dead. About 10 years later, Adam learns that Eden is still alive and decides to do everything he can to get to her and see her again.

This movie is basically like Romeo and Juliet in the sense that there are two lovers from different worlds that can’t be together because of that, but they still try to make it work. What made this movie different from every star-crossed lovers movies is the fact that the different worlds isn’t just the poor vs rich that we keep seeing. Yes Up Above is richer than Down Below, but they’re also in different gravities; which means, Adam needs to find a way to be able to be in Up Above without falling back in his gravity, because when he’s in Up Above it’s like he’s filled with helium and just flies in the sky and when he gets back in his gravity he because like a rock and falls down. It was very hard to get used to that concept while watching the movie, but it was worth it. I was pleasantly surprised at how I enjoyed the movie. I didn’t think I would at first, but it became so intense when Adam started hitting road blocks that I got sucked into the story; so much that there is one question at the end that I need it to be answered.

SPOILER ALERT DO NOT READ THE REST IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED OF THE ENDING

In the end, Eden is in Adam’s gravity without needing some Down Below weight material stuff that Adam needed to use to be in Up Above because she’s pregnant with Adam’s babies. My question is, if the mother is from Up Above and the dad from Down Below, what will the twin’s gravity be? Another small question, once she gives birth, is Eden going to fall back in her gravity?

Personal Goal Plan

When I was pregnant, the first thing I wanted to do after giving birth was start working out because I hated my weight. I know it’s weird to say since most of that weight was my son in my belly and I would lose that once I gave birth, but once that was done, I was definitely not satisfied with what I looked like. Sadly, life got in the way and I didn’t get to exercise like I wanted to. Then laziness took over and now, almost two years later, I still haven’t lost a pound; to be more precise, I lost some then gained it back so I’m basically back to the weight I was right after giving birth.

As you all know, last year I did the C25K thing in the hopes that I would keep going and I really wanted to, but then the holidays came around and I started being too busy with work and shopping for gifts and planning how we would spend the holidays to actually do any exercise. I told myself I would start again in January, new year new me mentality, but then I got too depressed about everything. I had to do some cleaning in my head before I could even consider doing anything for my body.

Right now, it’s not completely clean in my head yet, but it’s close enough that I can start exercising again. Now, since it’s been at least 2 months since my last jog, I thought I should start C25K over before thinking of doing more than that. I won’t be updating you every week again like I did the first time, but I will try to give you a monthly update of how it’s going. Those updates are mostly for me, just to motivate me more to actually do what I say I want to do. I already did the first week of C25K and sadly had to take a week off because my brain messiness was taking over again.

I won’t tell you my goal weight, but I will tell you how much I would like to lose. I would like to lose 30 pounds for this summer. I don’t know if it’s realistic or not, but I’ll do my best to lose as much as I can while still being healthy. I would also like to lose the belly pouch I have, if that doesn’t already come with losing weight. This task might be a bit harder than losing weight since I have this belly pouch because of my linea alba being ripped.

About that, I did some research to know if there were exercises I could do to help flatten the belly when your linea alba is ripped and I actually learned what my condition is called! It is called a diastasis recti, and there are exercises that I can do to help flatten the belly, I just need to be careful on how I execute them because it’s basically sit-ups but there’s something I need to do with my belly to make it so it doesn’t stretch the abdomen further. There’s also wall push-ups that I can do while doing this thing with my belly to prevent the muscles from stretching further. It felt really good finally putting a name on my condition and being able to research it to learn more and find out about exercises I can do!

Wish me luck!

Frankenstein

Frankenstein

Written by Mary Shelley and first published in 1831, Frankenstein is one of the oldest classic horror stories out there. Everyone knows about Frankenstein’s monster, but I think there aren’t many that take the time to read the original tale. I’ve recently decided to dive in those old tales to know the real story. The story is written as if we’re reading letters from a sailor that met Victor Frankenstein on one of his journeys, then the sailor starts writing the words of Victor as he tells his story.

Victor starts his story off by recalling his childhood and how he got his passion for science. He continues by talking about how he went to a university to study his passion further. That is where he started wanting greatness. He started studying specifically natural philosophy and chemistry, which eventually brought him to the wonder about the principle of life. After several years of study, Victor Frankenstein managed to create life in a being he had sewn himself. Immediately horrified by what he had created, Frankenstein hid himself. After about two years, he finally returned home after learning about his younger brother’s death and after several trials, Victor found himself in front of the monster listening to his story.

I was actually so surprised by the story because almost every movie I’ve watched where the Frankenstein monster was in it he was always pictured as a misunderstood thing that only wanted to live in peace in the shadow. It’s sort of what the monster wanted in the book, but so many things he did made him just an evil monster. At the beginning of his story I felt pity for him, but as he continued the story and as Victor kept going in his tale everything just kept getting more horrible. Even if there were some times where I would just disconnect from the story, I really enjoyed it. It was nice finally knowing the actual tale of one of the most famous monsters out there and I do encourage everyone that hasn’t read it to read it.

Sweetheart Cherry Pie

Recipe used here: http://www.cakestudent.com/sweetheart-cherry-pies/

Ingredients

IMG_20150208_161317

  • Butter, melted
  • About 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • Pie dough (you can make your own, but since I’ve never done that, I just bought some)
  • Ricotta cheese
  • Cherries (There weren’t any fresh at my grocery store so I bought some cherry pie filling)

Step One

IMG_20150208_164524

Preheat oven to 375°F. Roll the pie dough, flour helps the dough to not be sticky, and cut hearts (I used a cutter, of course). Line the hearts on a baking sheet with parchment paper on it.

Step Two

IMG_20150208_165331

Mix about 1 teaspoon of sugar to the cherries (I don’t know if it was necessary since I used pie filling, but I still did it). Put a bit of ricotta cheese on the hearts, then the cherries. The amount you put will depend on how much you want on it and how big your hearts are. Just remember not to put too much or else the top of the pie will burst.

Step Three

IMG_20150208_170611

Cut some more hearts in your dough and put them on top of the others. Press the edges with a fork to seel the dough. Brush a bit of melted butter on top of the pies and put in the oven. The recipe says 15 minutes, but for me it took about 25 minutes. You know your pie is ready when it’s golden brown.

Final Product

IMG_20150208_175416

There you go! A delicious cherry pie in the shape of a heart!

Until Next Time!

Passions

A couple weeks ago, I talked about my professional goal and how I had to think about stuff I love that I could turn into passions that could become a job. I think the reason I haven’t had passions is because I’ve just been too lazy to research or pursue any of the things I love to make them a passion. Having that in mind, I thought about the things I love. The few that popped up were Egypt, mythology, books and video games.

  • Egypt: Definitely not something you can turn into a job. I just always loved pyramids, the sphinx and at a certain point in my teenage years I tried to learn how to read hieroglyphs. I don’t know where this love for Egypt came from, but I’ve always had it. Never done much research to actually know many details about it though.
  • Mythology: That love strangely came at the same time as my love for Egypt, even though they’re not really related. From the little bits of research I did, Mythology is related to Greece or at least the Mythology I like. I’ve done a bit of research on that, I even bought a book talking about whose son or daughter is whose. Didn’t get much farther than that. I know the basics about Zeus, Aphrodite and Athena but that’s pretty much it. Again, not really something you can turn into a job.
  • Books: I’ve always loved reading books. I get that love of books from my mom. I spent my 18 years living with her watching her read books. I’ve always been around books and I’ve always loved them. I even love how books smell. I was that kid in school that hated to do book reports only because they forced me to pick a book from their list even though I was already reading one so I had to put aside a book I was really into to read a book that didn’t have such a good story. Just being around books all day would be perfect for me, which is why I thought of being a librarian.
  • Video Games: I love playing video games, but it stops there. Don’t try talking graphics and other technical stuff about video games other than the story because you’ll get me lost. The jobs with the video games that I know about are pretty much just working to create games or be a gamer on Youtube. The first option would be awesome since I love programming (even though I have absolutely no idea how to do it because I didn’t stay long enough in my computer science course), but I’m not sure if I could do that job since I have absolutely no talent in drawing. Being a Youtube Gamer would be the perfect job since I would stay home and play video games all day to make money, but I’ve been trying that out for a while and it’s not taking off so I don’t think I’m fit for that job.

Writing this, I feel like adding passions to my 2015 to-do list. This year, I should research Egypt and Mythology and just get more into the things I love to turn them into passions so I can actually say I know things in depth and not just the basics that pretty much everyone knows. If you want, I can share my findings with you guys! That could be a thing for the Rambling Monday no?

You can share your own passions in the comments below!

Until Next Time!

Nerd Block, January

In January I decided to go for the Nerd Block again because they said there would be some Star Wars loot, and I simply can’t resist Star Wars stuff!

P1110884

First off is a Doctor Who shirt. It looks awesome, but since I don’t watch Doctor Who I can’t enjoy the awesomeness to the max.

P1110885

Next up is some awesome elf ears and better yet a Hobbit bookmark and Gandalf’s staff as a pen! We can’t quite see it in the picture, but the bookmark is like in 3D. I don’t know how it’s called, but when you look at it you can see some depth (please tell me you understand my rambling?)

P1110886P1110887

Then there was a cute little Grumpy Cat plushie XD and this scatter brainz thing. From what I can understand, you throw the scatter brainz on the “Office Decision Maker”.

P1110889

Another thing included in this Block was a Star Trek comic. I’m not sure if it’s a crossover between Star Trek and Planet of the Apes or if that planet existed in Star Trek (I’ve never watched Star Trek), but it looks like a nice read.

P1110892

Last, but not least, is this awesome real clip of film from Star Wars Episode V! There’s even a little card that says it’s authentic!

Next month I’ll be bringing you an Arcade Block with some Zelda loot in it!

Until Next Time!
