Ironside : A Modern Faery’s Tale is a young-adult urban fantasy written by Holly Black. Published in April 2007, it completes the trilogy of the A Modern Faery’s Tale series. It is a direct sequel to Tithe: A Modern Faery’s Tale.
Kaye’s relationship with the Unseelie Court’s King, Roiben, puts her in the middle of the faery war between the Unseelie Court and the Seelie Court. Declaring herself to Roiben, he is forced to give her a quest to prove her love for him. He asks her to find a faery that can tell an untruth. Since the quest seems impossible, Kaye accepts to see the Seelie Court’s Queen, Silarial. Silarial proposes a deal to Kaye so she can see Roiben even though she hasn’t done the quest. While trying to trick the Seelie Queen, Kaye finds herself in a tough situation when her friend Corny kills one of the faeries. Her decision starts a domino effect of misfortune on herself and her friends.
I had a bit of a hard time getting into the story, but once I was in, I couldn’t get out. The story was so interesting and full of twists; I couldn’t predict what was going to happen! Usually, I figure out stuff way before the characters and I think they’re so dumb for not figuring it out sooner, but with this book, I figured out the things at the same time as Kaye. I simply adored the book. I wish there was more after this book.
Until Next Time!
